Gift for Bernadette

I finished work on a gift for a dear friend today. the only thing i have left to do is add trim around the top. I added a  charm that i know she likes, even though it doesnt exactly match the colors of the project it does match the theme.
Bernadette has been very sweet dear friend since i joined CCL(Creating the Crafty Life). She mailed me some scrapbook papers for no reason at all and I just wanted to tell her thank you for being such a sweetheart. I really hope she likes her gift.

Gift Card Mini Album

Today i found some old Wal Mart gift cards and thought I would make something out of them. After thinking it over i thought they would make a cute little brag book or mini album. Off i went to find the paper and embellishments.About an hour later I had this cute little book.

easy handmade butterflies

Here is my simple no fail tutorial on how to make your own butterflies... are you ready? ok here we go...

First get you some 5 petal flowers, these can be made with paper or material such as silk. it will all work out the same.

use your scissors to cut out one petal by cutting on either side of that petal to the center of the flower.

add some small beads or a mini clothespin to the center and there ya go! your own handmade butterfly!

Tussies, tussies, and more tussies

I know i have become quite addicted to these little treasures! I hope you have too. So today i started a few new tussies. I forgot to take pics of the tp roll before i covered it, so here are the pics from after i covered them with my images...

There are many different methods to adhere your images. I chose to use hot glue to seat the ends down. you could use mod podge, pva, tape runner, atg gun, score tape, any of these will do just fine. Next i just played around with my decorations and embellishments until i liked the way they looked...

Now you glue down your pretties and you will have a beautiful tussie to fill to the brim with goodies for whomever your recipient is...

stay tuned for the easy tutorial on my handmade butterflies! by the way my camera has the date messed up. lol

dangerous tussie mussie

This one didnt turn out as beautiful as the wishful one but i still like it. I love the colors! what do you think? you can check out my blog on my first tussie mussie to learn how to make your own. thanks

this is the back side...

rikrak roses

today i made some Rik Rak Roses. The name says it all. these are very cute and easy to make, if you dont mind burning your fingers a half dozen times with the hot glue gun.

To start you will need 2 pieces of rik rak ribbon (the wavy ribbon) of the same length. Weave the two together gluing both ends so it will stay together.
Next you start at one end and roll the woven ribbon up and glue the entire bottom to hold it together. Once the glue is dried, peel the ribbon back around the edges until you like the look of it.
Lastly i glued some lace i had in my stash around the bottom of the rose and that is it. you have just made a rik rak rose! how simple was that?!

my first Tussie Mussie!

Today i made my very first TP Tussie Mussie. for those of you who don't know what that is, it's a toilet paper roll that is pinched and glued at the bottom. you fill them with treats for the recipient. I really like how this turned out and it was super simple to do!

I added the image i purchased online and then i embellished it with flowers and ran a ribbon down each side and made a handle to hold it by. Ta Da Done! Even you could make one of these. Yes you! Oh come on, give it a whirl...

spring tags

Just thought i would share some tags i made for the "Hangin with my Peeps" Tag Swap over at +creatingthecraftylife.com.

Happy Valentines Day!

For Valentines Day i thought i would try my hand at making candy bouquets for the kids and take them to their schools. I watched a tutorial on youtube and away i went, i bought most of the supplies at the Dollar Tree so the cost was minimal (around $20 for all three) here are the pics aren't they adorable!?

I also made valentines for the kids to take to school. I got the idea off of pinterest and went with it. First i designed my own tag that said "I need 'smore' friends like you" and then i filled the bags with the ingredients for them to make their own smore. here is how they turned out...

Altered Cigar box

So the other day i decided to finally alter my first cigar box. it did turn out cute but not exactly what i had envisioned. I actually got a real cigar box from a tobacco shop instead of buying one of those balsa boxes at Michaels.

My first piece of advice is DO NOT peel the stickers off the top of the box. I did this thinking it would make the box smoother and easier to cover, i was wrong! the top came off and i have to just sit it on top and press it into place. My second piece of advise is dont cover the edges of the lid with too much paper. I also did this and i have to force my box to close. But again, these are only my experiences with an actual cigar box. Balsa boxes may be entirely different.

now on to my project...

I didnt go into too much detail when decorating this box. I just used what i had laying around in my stash, which wasnt much as you can see.
First i covered the entire box, inside and out with sheet music...

I then found a brightly colored floral napkin and seperated it until i only had one sheet. This makes the napkin more transparent. You can see in the picture above where i used the napkin to cover the outside of the box only. Because the napkin was transparent you could still see the sheet music through it which i thought added a little bit more interest in the piece.

Next I added the lace and ribbons to the side with a hot glue gun, as well as the flowers and embellishments to the top of the box. easy peasy.

My next box is a steam punk inspired cigar box for a swap on +creatingthecraftylife.com. wish me luck! and I really hope you all try this for yourself I had a ton of fun doing it. My 7 year old even helped. If she can craft a cigar box so can you.
